One Year of Fandom Wanderers

Hello, Wanderers. This is the Editor speaking…

This issue marks our first anniversary (which actually falls on the day after this issue goes up, but never mind that) – our first issue went live on the 23rd of June, 2012 and somehow, miraculously, a year later you guys are still reading what we’ve got to say. With that in mind, I’m afraid it is my solemn duty as the captain of this rather eccentric little crew to say a few words. Or so I am reliably informed by everyone I tried to talk into writing this article for me.

When Fandom Wanderers started out, with two writers and, frankly, no idea what we were doing, we couldn’t have imagined that the ‘zine would be such a success. Our team has grown, our readership has expanded and we’ve got chatting to some frankly brilliant fans from all sorts of fandoms and from all over the world. I’d like to take this opportunity, if I may, to say a few thank-yous.

Firstly, to the team here at Fandom Wanderers, past and present. Everyone who’s written for us over the last year has done so out of a genuine passion for what they’ve been writing about, and a genuine desire to help fans explore what fandom means to them and, we hope, promote a certain amount of responsibility about it. This webzine would be nothing without you, team, so thank you for your tireless efforts.

Secondly, to everyone we’ve worked with on the other side of fandom. Agents, actors, directors, authors, artists – anyone we’ve interviewed or who’s helped us out in any way, you’ve helped us to keep going for a whole year and we’re very grateful for that. You all gave us a chance when we were just starting out, and we hope you’re glad you did. We certainly are.

And last but by no means least, I want to thank each and every one of you who’s reading this now. Whether you’ve been with us since Issue One or this is the first time you’ve stumbled across our site, your support is invaluable to us. Thank you all for sharing articles, for getting in touch and letting us know what you think about things, and just for simply visiting the site.

So, what’s next for Fandom Wanderers? Well, we have no intention of stopping any time soon (knock on wood). Work on the book we’re bringing out to celebrate this very anniversary continues – we apologise for the delay, but we want it to be of the best possible standard for you when it does become available – and we hope to be able to get it to you within the next couple of months. We’ll continue to bring out a new issue each fortnight, and we hope that they will only improve as time goes by. Do let us know if there’s anything you want to see – from a book you wish we’d review to a hot fandom topic you’d like us to look into. We can’t make any promises, but we do take every suggestion into account. We will, of course, be coming up with our own ideas for new features and improvements, too!

If you’ve read the ‘zine over the last year, whether you’re a regular or just drop in occasionally to see what’s going on, we’d love to hear what you’ve enjoyed about it so far, and we hope you’ll keep reading for a while yet.

Thank you, dear Wanderers, for an unbelievable first year. Here’s to many more!
